At Lighting By Degree we understand the potential of light.
We can work at any level of input, from the design of a complete scheme for a major project to a few hours advice.
We are usually commissioned by building owners or managers, home owners, facilities managers or by architects, interior designers and other design professionals.
Sometimes our clients know exactly what lighting they want. But they do not have the technical expertise to specify it. In these situations Lighting By Degree can translate the client's concepts into a working scheme. Other clients simply want to subcontract some of their design work.
Most of our projects progress through a number of stages.
Concept. First, the requirements of the client are analysed. Then a lighting design concept is produced. Drawings, lit models or mock-ups can be created to show the scheme. We can produce computer generated visualisations of the lighting. Lighting By Degree also have portfolios containing photographs of finished schemes and effects, these can be very useful to give an understanding of the look of the finished project.
Development. The concept is developed into detailed specifications of the luminaires and the control system, together with a full set of layout drawings. Maintenance, energy and installation costs are reviewed, and compliance with legislation is examined.
Construction. The specifications and drawings are issued either to the electrical contractor for installation, or to other members of the design team, for example, the electrical engineer, for incorporation into the overall electrical specification package. While the lighting equipment is being installed we review the progress, when required, on site and make sure that all is going according to plan. When the installation is complete, Lighting By Degree focus the adjustable light fittings and, if installed, program any lighting control systems. After we hand the scheme over we continue to provide support either by telephone or by visits.
